When cornering or accelerating, the load on the drive wheels is always different between the left and right. With a standard differential, torque tends to escape to the less loaded drive wheels when the accelerator is on or off. This makes reliable braking during cornering and vehicle control difficult during acceleration.

An L.S.D. detects the difference in torque and rotation speed between the left and right wheels and limits the differential function to ensure traction is transferred to the road surface. In other words, an L.S.D. is essential for sporty driving. Spoon uses an easy-to-use 1.5-way (1.75-way AP1/2 only) mechanical system, designed for ease of assembly and maintenance. The factory initial torque is set to 9-9.5 kg (cold). Due to its structure, mechanical L.S.D.s may produce dragging noises from the drive wheels, internal gear noises, and vibration noises.
